Abstract
This study was designed to examine the effects of variables involved in social support on treatment outcomes and to help developing the programs for preventing relapse or readmission in schizophrenic patients. For these purposes this study was

support,
self-percept and coping skills were compared. The subjects of this study were 71 schizophrenic inpatients and 75 remitted schizophrenic inpatients.
The significant differences between two groups in demographic characteristics were found. In education, remitted schizophrenic inpatients had significantly higher level of education than schizophrenic inpatientsl in occupation, schizophrenics
were
mush
more unemployed than the remitted schizophrenics, and in marital status, almost all of the subjects of two groups were unmarried and especially the remitted schizophrenic inpatients were much more divorced.
According to the duration and number of hospitalization, the remitted schizophrenics had significantly higher than schizophrenics.
Among the variables of social support, it was found that two groups were all much the same in size of social network, On the perceived social support, remitted schizophrenics significantly much more perceived to receive self-esteem support from
others
and also remitted group had more positive self-concept.
And self-concept correlated significantly to the degree of remmision, perceived social support, and active coping strategy. Social support correlated to active coping strategy and negatively correlated to magical coping strategy. These results
suggested
that coping strategy and self-concept were involved in the social support variables.
